How to play PokéSurvivor: your first run

Less reading. More surviving. Learn the loop, the cards and the mistakes to avoid.

THE SHORT ANSWER

PokéSurvivor is a free browser survival roguelite by JPTER78. Choose a Pokémon partner, move to avoid hordes and collect experience. Your active move attacks automatically; level-up cards let you improve moves or run stats.

From the menu to the meadow

  1. Open the creator’s game. Guest mode is the quickest way to try it; use an account if you want cloud progress.
  2. Take the partner quiz or reject its suggestion and choose another starter. The quiz is a suggestion, not a permanent restriction.
  3. Start a run. Move with WASD or arrow keys; on a phone, rotate to landscape and drag to move.
  4. Collect experience drops. When you level up, read the three cards before choosing a move, a move upgrade or a stat boost.

Movement is your attack plan

You do not need to mash an attack key. Usually only the selected move attacks. Change slots with 1–4 or cycle with Q/E, and keep an escape lane visible.

Our advice: make broad loops rather than backing into unexplored terrain. Leave experience behind when collecting it would trap you. A missed pickup is cheaper than a lost run.

Make one move matter

Attack moves can reach level 5. An eligible move also needs its specific run-stat card before its golden evolution card is available. Permanent upgrades in the menu are not a substitute.

Our advice: strengthen a useful attack before filling every slot. This is a learning strategy, not a proven optimal build. Add coverage when your current attack struggles against the enemies around you.

Read the field, not just the health bar

Ground warnings signal incoming attacks. Step out before they land. Healers and shielders can make a crowd harder to clear; the official guide recommends prioritizing them.

A rift leads to a type-themed legendary arena. It is a decision, not a compulsory checkpoint. If you are still learning your move switcher or are low on health, passing it is a sensible choice.
